The radio station is a group exercise where you can get people to think about group criteria instead of personal interests. The exercise comprises 2 parts and it is important you hand in each set of instructions separately.
Part I instructions:
Form in pairs or trios.
You and your colleague are now members of the production team in a Radio station and you have to decide on a set of music sound tracks to be broadcast in a morning programme.
Use your own music preferences and establish a list with 5 tunes that you both like most for the start of the programme tomorrow at 7 AM.
Start to work for 5 minutes and stop.
Group debriefing:
“What did you notice in the way the pairs decided the 5 tunes list? Did you easily agreed on a joint list of preferences? Are they really your preferences or did you compromise?
PART II Instructions (hand in separately):
Reconvene with your pair. The facilitator hands in a card to each pair with several different radio stations profiles (youth, urban, nation wide, etc.)
Now go back to your pair or trio and work with this new set of instructions:
Think about your audience. Start to work with this sentence: “however we end up allocating sound tracks for the programme we need to do it in a way that…”
Work for 5 minutes and stop.
