The mid 90'sThe mid 90's. MS Windows operating system is changing computing habits and reshaping a powerful industry, where popular products such as Lotus 123, WordPerfect, disappear from the face of the earth faster than dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous period. Personal computers are disseminated everywhere. With Novell, the local area network is a burgeoning field but Internet is still in its infancy. Circumscribed among the scientific community, IP packets travelled by e-mail or ftp within Unix accounts both in academia and in the military. Mosaic was still a novelty when it was quickly overshadowed by a new strange technology, the World Wide Web. Within this framework, weird concepts such as "groupware" emerge; Software designed for group collaboration. A group of entrepreneurs in the University  of Arizona starts a company that gets noticed by major business publications. Fortune magazine spreads the word. Groups can be more productive thanks to software specifically designed to address their collaboration needs. Parallel processing, anonymity are the critical factors that combined with a new management culture of group empowerment led to the appearance of a new breed of consultants. They are goupVision's founding fathers.

Group Vision
Ever since its origins, groupVision has been a company specialised in improving group collaboration. Starting as European distributors of groupware manufacturers, the company has attracted a network of affiliated companies and group facilitators that develop a unique set of skills and experience in software-based consultancy. The old company logo reflected this break-through, cutting edge perspective with an Aztec stylised sun, which was also the symbol of collaborative knowledge creation.

In 1996, a group of consultants established an office in Lisbon, which one year later became a member of SMART Technologies' exclusive network of international distributors. Since then, the company has developed a set of unique expertise in servicing the award wining SMART Board interactive whiteboard among other highly innovative products from SMART Technologies.

Awarded SMART Distributor of distinction in 2002, groupVision developed an undisputed leading market position out of its Iberian operations. groupVision Consulting is a Madrid-based company that manages sales distribution services in exclusivity for SMART Technologies covering the whole of the Iberian Peninsula.

Group VisionA strong internet presence has been at the cornerstone of our sales and marketing services, coupled with our unique expertise in designing tailor-made meeting events, such as Aulas con Software, which have been receiving a growing number of participants since 2004. The company launched MundoSMART web site in 2002, which attracts visits from the entire Spanish speaking world. This new company logo reflected a natural evolution from the previous Aztec sun that has evolved into a stylised version of the '@' internet symbol. This was to reflect the growing importance of the Internet as a collaborative media, where we have based our business operations.

As collaborative software evolves and migrates into the Internet itself, it contributes to the development of the so called Web 2.0 that brings a host of universal collaborative features that were originally conceived for the corporate network. These include functionalities such as document sharing (including group editing), group calendar, instant messaging, web conferencing, among others.

As these groupware functionalities are built into the internet, a new collaboration revolution is about to begin. Google showcases new technologies such as Google Apps which are becoming widely adopted by all sorts of organizations.  Back in the 90's a vision emerged that "If GROUPWARE really makes a difference in productivity long term, the very definition of an office may change. You will be able to work efficiently as a member of a group wherever you have your computer. As computers become smaller and more powerful, that will mean anywhere."

Our latest company logo, used in this website, reflects how our vision that  emerged in the 90's has become an enduring passion. All of the original elements are still there, the company name regains a  more central presence and  it makes more relevant than ever our corporate mission: optimizing group collaboration
